Focus on Sustainability

At EMS2022, we aim to contribute to the UN Sustainable Development Goals by taking actions towards a more sustainable planning and execution of the congress. This is done through a number of initiatives in cooperation with partners and stakeholders. Read about some of our initiatives below.

Sustianable Venue

EMS2022 will be held at Scottish Event Campus (SEC) in Glasgow. Together with SEC, we ensure sustianable initiatives when organising the congress.

Trees for Life Programme

When hosting EMS2022 at SEC, we ensure that a grove of native trees is planted in the conference’s name as part of the Trees for Life programme.

Circular Glasgow

Hosting a congress entails a considerable use of resources. Through Circular Glasgow, we ensure that old materials and other obsolete items are donated to charitable and youth projects across the city.

Floor Cleaning

At SEC, floor cleaning fluid has been upgraded to a live bacteria product which eats away dirt, rather than washing it away. No chlorine or bleach products are being used.

Sustainable Food Production

Together with SEC, we ensure a more sustainable approach when it comes to the food served at EMS2022. For example:
– All coffee grounds are recycled into Biofuel
– SEC is home to over 100,000 bees providing honey for food recipes
– There will be no use of plastic straws
– All disposable items are compostable
